Top UC Davis Graduate Aims To Transform Experience of Aging

Only on annual visits to India was Avantika Gokulnatha able to help care for her now late grandfather as his health failed. But the San Jose resident endeavored to help others near her.

Gokulnatha did just that as she studied biological sciences and researched aging at the ��Ƶ, Davis. She volunteered with a local hospice, revived a student organization to help seniors with technology, and led other undergraduate volunteers at a clinic providing free medical care to uninsured and marginalized people.

A Student’s Journey to Bridge Plants, People and the Planet

Last fall, a cohort of UC Davis undergraduate students took part in Plants, People and the Planet, as part of Quarter at Aggie Square. This experience allows students to contribute to community-based initiatives that promote the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals related to agriculture, environmental conservation, and the development of resilient ecosystems, especially those in the Sacramento region.

United Way Expands Collegiate Guaranteed Income Program for former Foster Youth at Sacramento State and UC Davis

Twenty former foster youth studying at Sacramento State and the ��Ƶ, Davis, received their first payments today from United Way ��Ƶ Capital Region’s Collegiate Guaranteed Income program that will provide them with $500 a month for one year.

Picnic Day 2025 Wrapped

The 111th edition of Picnic Day, one of the largest student-run events in the country, took place Saturday (April 12), with tens of thousands in attendance.

From animal events to coffee tastings, the campuswide event had something for everyone, including multiple live performances, exhibits and live demonstrations that brought all corners of campus to life and invited the public to see what happens every day at UC Davis.

The Quarter at Aggie Square Biomedical Engineering cohort wrapped up their 10-week experience on Dec. 6 with a presentation of three medical prototypes for growth-accommodating heart valves, noninvasive glucose monitors and stroke-detection devices. The students chose the concepts to solve complex health challenges they encountered.

Emmanuel “Manny” Garcia Pereida of Oakland wore a UC Davis cap and gown with a stole identifying him as a first-generation college graduate. His name sounded over the arena’s speakers. He crossed the stage and shook hands with the chancellor. His family cheered.
